The Nicene Creed (AD 325)
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of all things visible and invisible.
And in our one Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God, begotten of the Father; only-begotten, that is, from the substance of the Father, God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father, which the Greeks call homoousion; through whom all things were made that are in heaven and on earth; who for the sake of us humans and for the sake of our salvation descended, was incarnated and made human, and suffered; and was resurrected on the third day, and ascended to the heavens; and will yet come to judge the living and the dead.
And in the Holy Ghost.

From the twenty-fifth session of the Council of Trent (AD 1563)
The holy Synod has ordained that no one be allowed to place, or cause to be placed, any unusual image in any place or church, however exempted, unless it has been approved by the bishop; and that no new miracles are to be admitted, nor new relics accepted, unless the same bishop recognizes and approves them; who, once he has learned anything of these things, and having consulted theologians and other pious men for advice, shall do what he judges consonant with truth and piety.
